KALAMAZO, Mich. – After almost five hours of shutting out oppositions, Adrian's Niko Giantsopoulous had his string of not allowing a goal broken by Kalamazoo College (8-4-1, 6-3) in double overtime as Adrian (5-10, 3-6) ended on the wrong end of a 1-0 game, Saturday afternoon in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.
"It was a tight game and we had chances to get the first goal in the first half. In the overtimes, both teams went back and forth, and unfortunately the ball bounced against us," said head coach Chris LeFevre.
The Hornets' Nicholas Shabino scored 103:19 into the second overtime to snap the Bulldogs' current win streak at two. The Bulldogs have played .500 soccer since the beginning of the month (2-2).
Giantsopoulous, who stopped 15 of 16 shots on the day, will add to his lead-leading goalkeeping totals of goals-against average, saves, save percentage and saves per game. The last time Giantsopoulous gave up a goal, it was to league-leading Calvin College almost two weeks ago. Officially, Giantsopoulous logged 293:34 of shutout time dating back to that game.
Defensively, the team has been stealth-not allowing a goal in its last three starts in regulation play. The team continues on the road at Trine, Tuesday, October 16th for a 4:00 p.m. conference matchup.
