ANGOLA, Ind.- Adrian College finished their weekend set at Trine University and the result was a double overtime dogfight that ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
The Bulldogs took the early lead when Marcus Phipps scored on an unassisted breakaway goal in the 17th minute. Elmhurst tied up the match just minutes before the break when Josh Rudd scored another breakaway goal on a helper from Michael Delong in the 34th minute. These two scores were all the offense the match had to offer as a scoreless game proceeded through double overtime and was never resolved. Niko Giantsopoulous helped secure this tie saving eight of the nine shots that Elmhurst put on net.
This result was all the Bulldogs needed to win the tournament for their second time and first since 2009. Adrian College will see action again September 17 at Kalamazoo College at 7 p.m.
