KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The men's soccer squad took the field on the road to open conference play on Tuesday. Adrian College took on Kalamazoo College for their first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) game of 2013 and capitalized on their opportunities to come out victorious in a 2-1 final.
Adrian College overcame an early Hornet sixth-minute goal that allowed Kalamazoo to carry the lead to the break. The Bulldogs rallied together in the second half scoring two goals in two minutes of game play. The first came in the 76th minute when Riley Jackson played a corner kick beautifully that allowed Matt Davis to score on a header. The second came in the 78th minute when Nick Minshall scored on a penalty kick that put the Bulldogs ahead for good. The Hornets did not go down without a fight putting six shots on goal for the match, but Niko Giantsopoulous closed the door for Adrian College. Giantsopoulous saved five shots, which allowed the Bulldogs to improve to 3-2-2 for the season.
Head Coach Chris LeFevre was pleased with how the team rallied together in the second half, "we showed a lot of character. The players stayed committed to each other and the task at hand. We were rewarded for our great team effort tonight."
The Bulldogs will continue MIAA play next Wednesday, September 25 when they travel to Alma for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
