ADRIAN, Mich. - Adrian College met Alma College Saturday afternoon for a crucial MIAA match in men's soccer. The Bulldogs controlled the first 45 minutes of play as they took a 1-0 lead to the break. The Scots then came out firing in the second half, putting up 14 shots to the Bulldogs' 0. Adrian did a great job of stopping every offensive push from Alma, until the final six minutes of play when the Scots squeezed two late goals past reserve goalkeeper Lino Taormina to secure the victory. This decision drops the Bulldogs to 5-6-4 overall and 3-4-2 in the conference for the season.
The match started off with the Bulldogs controlling play and taking an early lead. In the 18th minute, Nick Minshall scored his 13th goal of the season from a Riley Jackson corner kick. Adrian controlled the play for the rest of the first half, firing five shots to just three from Alma. After the break, the Scots increased their offensive push. Alma fired 14 shots for the half, and put six of their shots on goal. They finally were able to break through the great defense the Bulldogs played in the 84th minute when they tied the match, and just three minutes later scored the go-ahead goal.
Adrian College played the majority of the match with reserve goalkeeper Lino Taormina who entered the game after starter Niko Giantsopoulous sustained an injury. Giantsopoulous was shaken up in the 10th minute and remained sidelined for the rest of the match. Taormina filled in and made six stops for the match.
