KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has announced the All-Region recipients for the 2013 season in NCAA Division III. The Bulldogs have two student-athletes that received honors.
Junior forward Nick Minshall (Fishers, Ind.) and sophomore goalkeeper Niko Giantsopoulos (Markham, Ont.) each received third team honors. This is the first time each of these athletes have been selected as All-Region and just the second time in school history an Adrian College player has been selected following the selection of Billy Cremeans in 2010.
Minshall started all 19 matches for the Bulldogs in 2013. Minshall capped his 2013 campaign by setting the Adrian College record for goals in a season with 15. Minshall also totaled 31 points, 1.63 points per match, and 0.79 goals per match. Each of these totals was good enough to place Minshall in the top three of the MIAA for the season. This was the first year Minshall was selected as All-Region.
Assistant Coach Paul Gilbert commented on Minshall's achievement, "Nick had statistically one of the best seasons in school history and is very deserving of his All-Region selection. His hard work and dedication to his craft has clearly paid off."
Giantsopoulos started 16 matches and played in 17 for the Bulldogs in 2013. Giantsopoulos earned his place as the third team All-Region goalkeeper by compiling 71 total saves, which placed him fourth in the MIAA. Giantsopoulos also finished the season with a 1.307 goals-against average and a .772 save percentage, which placed him second and third in the MIAA respectively. This was the first time Giantsopoulos was selected as All-Region.
"I am ecstatic that Niko has been honored by other coaches from our region as an All-Region player. It has been a privilege to see him grow and develop, not only as a player but student as well. I am very proud of him," added Gilbert.
