ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's soccer team saw action against Augustana College Sunday afternoon as they looked to end their opening weekend with a win over the Vikings. The Bulldog defense played stout, but they could not capitalize on their offensive opportunities as Augustana took down Adrian, 3-0. This loss puts the 2014 overall record for the Bulldogs at 0-2.
The first half saw the Vikings strike quickly as they left Adrian down 1-0 in the fourth minute. This quick offensive start for Augustana continued as they stretched their lead to 2-0 in the 17th minute. The Bulldogs then secured their defense for the remainder of the half as they held the Vikings scoreless for the remainder of the first period. The Bulldogs could not beat the Vikings defense as a Nick Minshall free kick just sailed high and Adrian trailed 2-0 at the break.
The second half was highlighted by more stingy defense from the Bulldogs as Lino Taormina totaled four saves for the half and Adrian held the Vikings scoreless through the first 25 minutes of the half. Augustana then upped their lead to 3-0 in the 70th minute, and held Adrian scoreless for the remainder of the game as the Bulldogs fell 3-0.
Lino Taormina (0-2) played all 90 minutes in goal for Adrian as he made six saves.
The Bulldogs will see action again September 7 when the host Carroll (Wis.) to Docking Stadium for an 11 a.m. start.
