FREELAND, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Adrian goalkeeper Lino Taormina its Defensive Player of the Week in men's soccer for games played through Sept. 14.
Taormina, a junior from Monroe (St. Mary Catholic Central HS), allowed only two goals and made 13 saves in leading the Bulldogs to three nonconference victories. He had five saves in a 1-0 win over Carroll, Wis. and six saves as the Bulldogs defeated Manchester, Ind., 3-1. Taormina stopped two shots as the Bulldogs beat Defiace, 2-1. It's the first time in his career Taormina has been named Player of the Week.
