HOLLAND, Mich. – The Bulldogs traveled to Hope College Saturday night to take on the seventh ranked Flying Dutchmen. Adrian put Hope to the test as they shutout Hope for the second half, but a lone first half goal from Hope was the difference as they outlasted Adrian, 1-0. This loss sets the overall record for Adrian back to 3-3-1 and 0-1-1 in the MIAA.
The first half was highlighted by Hope jumping out on Adrian as they scored the first goal of the match on a cross that resulted in a goal from 14 yards out. The Bulldogs fought off the Flying Dutchmen for nearly the entire first half, but Hope managed to beat the Bulldog defense in the 12th minute.
The second half was another defensive battle as the two teams traded shots. The Bulldogs had scoring opportunities from Nick Minshall and Bayden Lee but they could not beat the Hope defense despite firing seven shots with three on goal. Lino Taormina shutout Hope for the entire second period, but the Flying Dutchmen outlasted the Bulldogs, 1-0, as the second half was scoreless.
Taormina (3-3-1) made the start in goal for Adrian as he made seven saves.
The Bulldogs will see action next in September 23 when they host Trine University in their MIAA home opener at 7 p.m.
