ADRIAN, Mich. – The Bulldogs met Kalamazoo College Saturday afternoon. Adrian tied the Hornets, 1-1, in double overtime in their MIAA opener back on September 17. The teams remained in a deadlock early, but a two-goal Hornet first half managed to be the difference.
The Bulldogs and Hornets continued their close play as they remained in a deadlock through the first 20 minutes of play with the only shot coming from Kalamazoo. The Hornets then ended this stalemate in the 20th minute when a corner kick resulted in a header that beat the Bulldog defense. Kalamazoo added to their lead in the 26th minute when another corner kick ended that made the score, 2-0. The Bulldogs could not beat the Hornets defense for the first 45 minutes as Kalamazoo carried a two-goal lead to the break.
The Bulldogs looked to battle back into the game in the second half. Adrian cut the Kalamazoo lead in half in the 54th minute as Marcus Phipps played a ball into the box that Shayan Shushtari finished in the top right corner of the goal. This score remained until the 61st minute when the Hornets pushed their lead back to two when a deflection beat the Bulldogs defense and Kalamazoo led, 3-1. The Bulldogs could not beat the Kalamazoo defense again as the teams fought to a 3-1 final score.
This loss leaves the overall record for the Bulldogs at 4-8-1, with a 1-6-1 mark in the MIAA.
Lino Taormina (4-8-1) made the start in goal for Adrian as he made three saves.
