Adrian, Mich. – The Adrian College men's soccer team couldn't complete the come from behind victory today losing 2-1 in two overtimes to Alma College. This is the Bulldogs first conference loss on the season. Adrian freshman forward Tad Davis scored the team's lone goal on one of his two shots on goal.
Both teams came out strong in the first half but were unable to break through the defense. The Scots came out of half time on a mission spending the first 15 minutes in the offensive end. The Bulldogs couldn't withstand the pressure as Alma senior midfielder Julian Birge took a pass inside the box and put it in the back of the net, making the score 1-0.
It looked like the game might end at that score as good Bulldogs shots continued to miss their mark. That would change in the 86th minute when Davis took a pass at the top of the box from Adrian junior midfielder Mark Proctor and scored, bringing the score to 1-1.
Alma junior keeper Nick Strait saved a last second attempt by Adrian sophomore midfielder Shayan Shushtari to force the game to continue in overtime. The first overtime would see good chances for both teams but none would find the back of the net. Then in the second minute of the second minute of overtime Alma sophomore midfielder Evan Shirkey would take a breakaway opportunity and score ending the game at 2-1 in favor of the Scots.
The Bulldogs will look to bounce back when they travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to face the Calvin College Knights on Wednesday September 30 at 7:00 p.m.
