FREELAND, Mich.--The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Adrian College senior keeper Lino Taormina (Monroe, Mich./St. Mary Catholic Central High School) as the MIAA Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, it was released on Monday.
Taormina posted a 2-0 record and .50 goals-against average while making 13 saves for a .929 percentage, for the period ending Sunday. In a 2-0 road win over Olivet on Wednesday, he had eight saves to chalk up his third shutout of the season. Then on Saturday, he turned aside five shots in a 2-1 victory versus Kalamazoo on Senior Night as the Bulldogs avenged a 7-0 loss to the Hornets earlier in the season.
Taormina ended the regular season as the MIAA statistical champion with 105 saves--one shy of his career high. His three shutouts this fall equal the total he had in the three previous seasons combined.
