Bulldogs' Offense Sends Men's Soccer Shooting Past Comets

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's soccer team continued to remain unbeaten in conference play after defeating Olivet 5-1 on Saturday, Oct. 6.

Final Score: Adrian 5, Olivet 1

Location: Adrian, Mich. (Docking Stadium)

Records: Adrian 5-5 (2-0 MIAA), Olivet 4-6-1 (0-2 MIAA)

Adrian opened the scoring early in the match when senior Zachary Roller bent the ball around the wall and past the keeper on a free kick from 25 yards in the 5th minute. 59 seconds later junior Garrett Miller scored on a free kick of his own, this one from 30 yards out to extend the lead to 2-0 in the 6th minute.

The game was temporarily put on hold in the 17th minute as lightning caused a 22-minute lightning delay before play could resume.

The Bulldogs found the back of the net again in the 33rd minute when Zachary Combs placed a volley past the keeper. Sophomore Eric Wahoski got the ball at the top of the box and beat his man to get the ball to freshman Grant Perrine. Perrine came up the left wing and found Combs in the box for the score.

Two minutes later the Black and Gold scored again, this time on a penalty kick, courtesy of junior Brad Squires. Squires was taken down in the box and made the Comets pay by putting his penalty into the lower left corner of the net.

After an extended halftime due to another lightning delay, Olivet got on the board after finding the back of the net on a header from a cross up the left wing.

Adrian wasn't done scoring yet, as junior Francesco Cusumano scored his first goal as a Bulldog in the 90th minute. Wahoski sent a great ball forward to Cusumano streaking past the Olivet defense and he was able to get it past the keeper with a bending shot to the far post.

• Roller, Combs, Squires, and Cusumano all scored their first goal of the year while Garrett Miller netted his third.

• Perrine notched his first assist of the year while Wahoski picked up his second and third assists.

• Reece Burton scored the lone goal for the Comets.

The Bulldogs play again on Tuesday, Oct. 9 when Albion visits Docking Stadium for a conference match at 7 p.m.
