ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's soccer team extended its winning streak to three matches and remained unbeaten in conference play after defeating Albion 2-0 at home on Tuesday, Oct. 9.
Final Score: Adrian 2, Albion 0
Location: Adrian, Mich. (Docking Stadium)
Records: Adrian 6-5 (3-0 MIAA), Albion 5-5-2 (0-3 MIAA)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Adrian was able to get on the board in the third minute thanks to a penalty kick from senior Dolan Bonkowski. Bonkowski was taken down inside the box while trying to fight for a rebound and made Albion pay on the ensuing penalty kick, beating the keeper with a shot to the right side of the net.
The Bulldogs picked up an insurance goal in the 63rd when junior Dayton Rush capitalized on an ill-advised pass from the Britons leading to just having the keeper to beat. The keeper passed the ball to the Albion defender just outside the box, who did not see Rush approaching. Rush took the ball off of his feet and was in on goal and slid one past the keeper to the far right corner to seal the deal.
It was a physical contest throughout, with seven yellow cards handed out between the two squads. Goalkeeper Spencer Brown was awarded one in the 31st minute and his brother Parker, who plays on Albion, was shown the card in the 78th minute for fouling his older brother Spencer while charging after a loose ball.
• Bonkowski netted his second goal of the season and both have been the game-winning goal.
• Rush tallied his third goal of the season, tying him for the team lead.
• Alex Spratte and Will Colborn were the only two Britons to take a shot on goal.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 13 when they travel to Calvin to take on the MIAA preseason favorite Knights. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
