FREELAND, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) announced the 2018 men's soccer All-MIAA Awards on Tuesday, Oct. 30, with four Bulldogs receiving the honors. Senior Zachary Roller was named to the All-MIAA First Team, while fellow senior Tad Davis, junior Spencer Brown and sophomore Justin Tobin were named to the All-MIAA Second Team. The number matches number of players Adrian had in last year's All-Conference honors.
Roller has been a key piece of Adrian's defense and offense this year, and is currently tied for the team lead in goals with five, and is second on the team in points with 12. All of his points have come in conference play this season. Roller is currently on a three-match goal streak, and has scored four times in the last three matches. His contributions on defense were recognized last week by the conference, as Roller was named Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career. This is Roller's first time being named All-Conference.
Davis has been one of Adrian's best players all year long, and is tied with Roller for the team lead in goals and leads the team in points with 13. His three goals in conference matches is tied for ninth in the MIAA. Davis was named the MIAA's Offensive Player of the Week twice this season and has been named to the All-MIAA Second Team for the third consecutive season.
Brown has started every match in goal for the Bulldogs this year, and has had an impressive conference season. His 10 goals against in conference play is second-best, and his 1.59 goals against average puts him third in the MIAA. Brown's five total clean sheets this season also puts him third in the conference. This is Brown's first All-MIAA selection.
Tobin has been a rock on the interior of Adrian's back line, starting every game and playing all but 11 minutes this season. He picked up an assist on Sep. 16 in a 4-0 win over Transylvania for his only point on the year. This is Tobin's second All-MIAA selection, as he was on the All-MIAA First Team a year ago.
"These four awards are great for us as a program," Head Coach Ryan McDonald had to say. "As we have always said, these awards are team awards since they would not have been able to achieve this honor without all 28 guys. The MIAA is a great conference and it's well deserved by these four guys. It's great to see these guys get recognized for the work they have put in this season."
Adrian hosts Trine tonight, Oct. 23 in a semifinal match in the MIAA Tournament at Docking Stadium. The Bulldogs got the better of the Thunder earlier in the year, beating them on the road 2-0 that helped the Black and Gold secure a first round bye in the tournament. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the winner moving on to face the winner of Hope vs. Calvin for the championship on Saturday.
