Adrian Remains Perfect After Win Over Mich.-Dearborn

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's soccer team is now on a five-game win streak after defeating Mich.-Dearborn on Saturday night. This is the first time in program history that the Bulldogs have done so.

Final Score: Adrian 2, Mich.-Dearborn 1

Location: Adrian, Mich. (Kapnick Field)

Records: Adrian 5-0-0, Mich.-Dearborn 1-3-0

The Bulldogs did not waste time showing off their offensive strength, getting three corner kicks and a penalty kick in the first three minutes of the contest. Adrian's penalty kick was awarded to Zach Combs, who's shot was just shy of going into the goal, as Dearborn's goalie was able to make a bread basket save.

Adrian remained offensive, applying loads of pressure to the Wolverine's goalie, eventually forcing him to slip up. As the goalkeeper went to kick the ball out of the box, Garrett Miller was successful in his attempt to steal the ball and kick it toward the goal. His shot was just shy of finding its way into an unguarded goal in the 19th minute.

With the adrenaline from the near miss still coursing their veins, the Bulldogs were able to put themselves on the board six minutes later. AC's goal was recorded by Brendan Koziol, who was able to redirect Miller's corner kick with his head, beating the Dearborn goalie.

Adrian owned a 1-0 lead for the remainder of the first half and well into the second, as the Wolverines were able to come away with a tally of their own in the 76th minute capitalizing on a corner kick of their own.

The Bulldogs answered back less than two minutes later with the eventual game-winner. Justin Tobin owned the header, for his first goal of the season, as he was able to redirect a ball off the foot of Robbie Precious who was gifted the ball due to being fouled.

Senior Spencer Brown played the entire 90 minutes, making four saves.

  • Junior Justin Tobin, who had the game-winning goal, his first goal of the season.
  • Senior Brendan Koziol with his first-career goal to open the game.
  • Classmate Spencer Brown with his fifth-consecutive win of the season, he has played all 450 minutes this season.

The Bulldogs remain at home, hosting Rochester (Mich.) for a 7 p.m. contest on Wednesday.
