Men’s Tennis Battles Hope in MIAA Semifinal

HOLLAND, Mich. – In a rematch of the final regular season contest, the Adrian College men's tennis team once again traveled to Hope College in the MIAA Tournament Semifinal on Thursday. The Bulldogs battled the Flying Dutchmen and eventually fell 5-3 in their first appearance in the postseason tournament.

The Bulldogs trailed 2-1 after doubles play in the race for five points in clinch the match. It was a highly competitive session as the Bulldogs won 8-5 at the No. 1 spot. Jordan Verbauwhede and Joey Loselle defeated Parker Bussies and Matthew Culver for a big point. Alex Krat and Alex Amos were defeated 8-1 at No. 3 by Cody Herbruck and Sam Kreps. The swing match was at No. 2 and it could have gone either way. Michael Mertz and Spencer Georgetti fell 9-7 to T.J. Brogan and Colin McKey.

Adrian had success in the top of the order in singles. Loselle and Mertz each had victories in three sets. Loselle won 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 against Herbruck and Mertz won 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 against Brogan. Verbauwhede had two strong sets as Bussies won 7-6 (7-3) in a first set tiebreak and then had a 6-4 win in the second set.
