ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's tennis team won five of six singles matches and two of three in doubles action for a 7-2 win over visiting Spring Arbor on Thursday. It was the first match of the spring season for the Bulldogs who improved to 4-1 this year. The Cougars fall to 3-9 overall with the loss.
The doubles play began the match and Adrian won the top two matchups. Michael Mertz and Joey Loselle claimed an 8-5 win at one doubles over Michael Darling and Jesse DeBoer. Jeff Sophiea and Troy Gargrave teamed up at two doubles for an 8-4 win over John Hall and Tony Mayotte.
Brandon Brom manned the top spot in the singles lineup and took care of Darling by scores of 6-4,7-6 (7-2). Loselle posted a 6-4, 6-0 win over DeBoer at two singles. Mertz cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at three singles over Hall. Sophiea needed three sets but pulled out a 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 win over Andrew Herlein. Gargrave also had a 6-4, 6-2 win at five singles over Mayotte.
