The Adrian College men's tennis team kicked off a busy next couple of days with a pair of matches against Wis.-La Crosse and Knox on the road. The Bulldogs stumbled to an 8-1 loss against Wis.-La Crosse and then responded with a 9-0 win at Knox.
In the first match, the Bulldogs (5-2) dropped three doubles matches against the Eagles (6-2) with the best showing at the one spot as Joey Loselle and Michael Mertz stretched Peter Stadum and Tony Mirasola to 9-7. Loselle was also in a dogfight at two singles falling 7-5, 6-3 to Kyle McGrane. Troy Gargrave picked up a win at five singles for the Bulldogs with a three-set victory over Dante Pitera (5-7, 6-2, 6-4). Alex Amos also went the distance at six singles with a 6-4, 4-6, 4-6 defeat against Matthew Bulger.
In the second match, Adrian shook off the bad taste quickly and firmly with a sweep of Knox. The Prairie Fire did not have an answer in doubles including an emphatic 8-0 win at the three spot for Brandon Brom and Amos. Jeff Sophiea and Gargrave picked up an 8-4 win at two doubles. Loselle and Mertz had a close match at the one position but pulled it out 8-6. Brom needed three sets to pull out a win at one singles over Walter Palmer (6-3, 4-6, 10-8). Sophiea barely broke a sweat with a 6-0, 6-0 win at four singles over Rohail Khan. Amos likewise had few troubles with Tung Nguyen with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at six singles. Mertz wasted little time in his 6-1, 6-2 win at three singles over Ashwin Kushwaha.
