ALBION, Mich. – The men's tennis team had their eight-match win streak halted on Saturday afternoon at Ungrodt Tennis Center with a 5-4 loss to Ohio Wesleyan.
The Bulldogs captured one doubles match and it was a nail-biter as Troy Gargrave and Jeff Sophiea defeated Elliot Garwood and Jacob Volbers 9-8 (7-5) in the number two slot. Both other doubles matches went 8-5 in favor of Ohio Wesleyan.
Joey Loselle won in straight sets at number two singles (6-3, 6-1) over Garwood. Michael Mertz manned the three-spot and also won convincingly with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Jakraraj Rungaseng. Sophiea continued the strong play in singles at the four-spot with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Volbers. Mitch Bulger took the first set in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-4) at six singles before Devon Dulin battled back to win the next two sets 6-0, 6-4.
