ALMA, Mich. – The Adrian College men's tennis team opened up MIAA play on Sunday with a 7-2 victory at Alma College improving to 14-3 overall. The win tied the school record for wins set last season. The team won two of three in doubles to set the tone. Joey Loselle and Michael Mertz got an 8-4 win at one doubles against Bryan Schutte and Grant Hill. Brandon Brom and Alex Amos had a crucial win at three doubles and won 9-8 over Noah Ackerman and Damien Arthur.
Brom also stepped up at one singles and had a straight sets win over Schutte (7-6, 6-4). Loselle had fewer troubles with Jared Guy at two singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win. Mertz had a complete showing at three singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Phil Ryskamp. Jeff Sophiea and Hill went toe-to-toe at four singles before Sophiea pulled out a 7-6, 6-4 win. Troy Gargrave needed three sets but rallied for a 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 victory.
