ANGOLA, Ind. – The Adrian College men's tennis team ended the regular season on Friday afternoon with a 6-3 road win at Trine. The Bulldogs improved their season record to 18-5 and were 4-2 in the MIAA. Adrian will have to wait until tomorrow to find out where they will play in the upcoming MIAA Tournament. They know it will be Calvin but they have to play Hope. If Calvin wins, Adrian will travel to Grand Rapids due to tiebreaker of Calvin's head-to-head win. If Calvin loses, Adrian will host the Knights. The tournament semifinal will take place on Thursday, April 30.
The Bulldogs got off to a 2-1 lead in doubles winning at the one and three spots. Michael Mertz and Joey Loselle won 8-6 over Caleb Knust and Nick Cassidy at the top spot. Brandon Brom and Troy Gargrave also won 8-6 at the three spot over Brian Zehner and Spenser Gilbert. The Bulldogs dropped a narrow 9-8 decision at two doubles.
Adrian won four of the six singles matches and all of them were done in straight sets. Loselle won 7-5, 6-2 at two singles against Cassidy. Mertz won 6-0, 6-3 against Joey Clark at three singles. Alex Amos had a big win at five singles over Victor Flynn by scores of 6-3, 6-4. Gargrave also got a win at six singles with a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Judson Quinn.
