HOLLAND, Mich.--The Adrian College men's tennis team opened the month of April with a 9-0 loss Friday at the hands of host Hope College at the DeWitt Tennis Center. The Bulldogs fall to 4-7 on the season and 1-1 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, while the Flying Dutchmen improve to 5-8 overall and 2-1 in the MIAA.
Sophomore Nathan Waterbury provided a highlight for Adrian at No. 6 singles, where he took Justin Folkert to three sets. Folkert won the opener 7-6 before Waterbury evened the match in convincing fashion, 6-0. Folkert, however, was able to regroup and edge Waterbury in the third, 6-4, for the win.
And at No. 3 doubles, Adrian second-year classmates Tanner Wilcox and Kyle Haines lost a 9-7 heartbreaker to Carter Smiley and Justin Folkert.
This contest was originally scheduled for Saturday. The Bulldogs are next in action on Sunday against MIAA foe Olivet College at 1 p.m. in a match to be held at Minges Creek AC or Harper Creek High School.
