ADRIAN, Mich. – Adrian College director of athletics Michael Duffy announced the hiring of Zach Elbin as the new men's and women's tennis coach of the Adrian College programs on Tuesday. Elbin comes to Adrian after most recently serving as the head coach of the Ann Arbor Huron High School girls' tennis team and working as a tennis professional at the Chippewa Tennis Club.

"Zach checks all the boxes that I was looking for in a new coach," Duffy said. "He has connections in the state of Michigan for recruiting, he has experience both on the collegiate and private level tutoring tennis players to hone their skills, and he coached collegiately at a high NCAA Division II level."

Elbin is no stranger to teaching tennis, with his position with the Chippewa Tennis Club seeing him charged with teaching technique, fundamentals, and strategies of the game to athletes ranging from ages four to 70+. This past spring while serving as the head coach at Huron High School, he led the River Rats to the state finals, finishing in sixth place at the Lower Peninsula Finals at the beginning of the month.

Prior to his time in Michigan, Elbin was the head coach for the men's and women's tennis teams at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, an NCAA Division II program. He coached both teams to the conference tournaments all three seasons while leading the Rams, with 12 total players earning All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference selections in his three years at the helm. In his final season in 2018, Thomas Jefferson had its one doubles team ranked No. 24 in the nation and second in the region.

"I just want to thank Michael Duffy and Adrian College for giving me this opportunity to coach men's and women's tennis for the Bulldogs," stated Elbin. "I am excited to help form a winning team in the classroom and on the court. I look forward to every challenge each team may have in the upcoming season and we will tackle it head on. I believe my past coaching successes will help steer these programs in the right direction for the foreseeable future."

In addition to his duties as head coach of the Rams, Elbin also served as a volunteer assistant coach for the women's basketball team at Thomas Jefferson University and as a tennis professional at Legacy Youth and Tennis Education, an organization focused on young players and those from disadvantaged background.

Elbin played collegiately at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio. He had a 9-6 record in singles play in three years of varsity action and a doubles record of 24-13, with a 16-6 mark in his senior season. Elbin received Ohio Athletic Association All-Academic awards during his final three years, as well as Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athlete awards for the same years. He was named to the Dean's List those same three years as well and was a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Athletic Honors Society during his final two years.

Elbin earned his Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Early Childhood Education from Baldwin-Wallace in May of 2014. He currently resides in Ann Arbor, Mich., with his wife.
