CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Adrian College men's volleyball was picked to finish seventh in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) in 2019 according to the preseason coaches' poll.
Carthage was picked to win the regular season title for the fourth time in a row, picking up 99 of a possible 100 points in the vote, with nine first-place votes. North Central came in second place with 90 points and the remaining first-place vote. The Cardinals were followed by Loras (74 points), Mount St. Joseph (71), Augustana (57), Fontbonne (57), ADRIAN (38), Greenville (29), Olivet (17) and conference newcomer Trine (16).
Adrian's seventh-place prediction is one spot better than AC finished last year in the MCVL, finishing in eighth-place with a 3-6 conference record and 8-14 overall record. The Black and Gold return 11 players from last year's squad, including the team's kills leader and Second Team All-MCVL selection a year ago, junior Noah Marcinkowski and the primary setter, fellow junior Joseph Campana. Senior Michael Burkhardt and junior Kevin Curley will look to be leaders on defense as Burkhardt finished second in blocks and Curley was second in digs a season ago.
The Bulldogs open their season next weekend by hosting the Michigan Men's Volleyball Invitational, featuring men's volleyball programs from around the state. Aquinas, Lawrence Tech, Olivet, and Siena Heights will all come to the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center on Jan. 11-12 for the tournament. Adrian plays Lawrence Tech at 1 p.m. and Aquinas at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11 and battle Olivet at 9 a.m. and crosstown rival Siena Heights at 1:30 on Saturday.
