Bulldogs Settle for Split in Michigan Men's Volleyball Invitational

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's volleyball team split the Michigan Men's Volleyball Invitational after falling in straight sets to crosstown rival Siena Heights 3-0 in the final match of the invite on Saturday, Jan. 12.


Final Score: Siena Heights 3, Adrian 0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-22)

Location: Adrian, Mich. (Merillat Sport and Fitness Center)

Records: AC 2-2, SHU 3-1


Siena Heights set the tone early with a decisive 25-17 win in the first set. Two runs of six points and a run of five points to close out the set helped propel the Saints to the win in the first set. SHU jumped out to an early lead in the second set, but Adrian was able to comeback after a timeout and cut the deficit to one. The Bulldogs eventually took the lead at 24-23 but lost the next three points to give the Saints the second set win, 26-24. The match wasn't destined to go past the minimum number of sets needed, as Siena Heights won another close set, 25-22 to finish the match and the invitational.

Adrian finished with 11 team blocks, led by senior Mike Gold's 3.5 total blocks (one solo, five assists). The Bulldogs only hit .078 in the match while the Saints connected at a .205 rate.


• Freshman Tedrick Gula led the offense for the Bulldogs, with 11 kills.

• Junior Joseph Campana assisted on 28 kills.

• Junior Kevin Curley led the squad with 12 digs, and Gold led in blocks with 3.5.


• Alex Garavalia led Siena Heights with 15 kills.

• Keegan Crawford racked up 35 assists.

• Bryce Johnson finished with 3.5 blocks.


Adrian heads to Ohio next weekend for the Hiram Invitational. The Bulldogs play Hiram and Thomas More on Friday, Jan. 18 and Geneva on Saturday.
