Men's Volleyball Falls in Final Match in California

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Adrian College men's volleyball team finished the Cal-Lu-Fornia Invitational on Saturday, March 9 with a loss to Johnson & Wales (R.I.). The Bulldogs picked up one win in five matches out west, beating Emmanuel College (Mass.) earlier in the day.


Final Score: Johnson & Wales 3, Adrian 1 (17-25, 25-11, 25-22, 25-10)

Records: AC 12-9, JW 12-5


Adrian took the first set, hitting a big .409 in the set. The Bulldogs lost the first point but quickly took the lead and didn't relinquish it after. The largest lead of the set was the final margin of eight points, capped off with a solo block by freshman Peyton Doelling for set point.

It was reversed in the second set, with Johnson & Wales opening a large, 7-1 lead to start the set. The Wildcats hit a match-high .500 in the second set on the way to a 25-15 victory over AC.

The third set saw Adrian open a large lead to start, but seven points in a row from J&W gave the Wildcats a 12-11 lead in the set. The teams traded points for a while, with the game knotted again at 18 all. The Black and Gold then won four of the next five points to take a 22-19 lead but the Wildcats won the next six points to take the set 25-22 and the lead in the match.

Johnson & Wales controlled the fourth set like the second, taking a 5-0 lead to start and then extending it to 12-4. Adrian only got six more points in the match as the Wildcats took the fourth set 25-10 to win the match.


• Junior Noah Marcinkowski had 10 kills to lead the Bulldogs' offense.

• Junior Joseph Campana totaled 29 assists in the match.

• Junior Kevin Curley and Campana each had a team-high nine digs.


• Jack Pincince led the Wildcats with 14 kills.

• Ben Sandt had 24 assists.

• Nick Bietto racked up 11 digs.


Adrian is back in action next weekend with three matches in two days. The Bulldogs face Augustana on Friday, March 15 at 8 p.m. and Loras on Saturday at 12 p.m. in conference play, and then North Park following the match against Loras at 2 p.m.
