FREELAND, Mich.--For the second time this season, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has selected Adrian College sophomore Devon Pingel (Lapeer High School) the MIAA Wrestler of the Week. That announcement was made Monday by the league office.
Pingel went 2-0 in a pair of Adrian duals last week at 184 pounds, starting with a fall in 1 minute and 19 seconds over Trine's Luke Carver on Jan. 15 to help Adrian to its first MIAA win since the 1982-83 campaign. Pingel then registered a 22-2 technical fall (2:54) over Case Western Reserve's Brian Kent two days later.
On the season, Pingel has a team-best 21-3 record--including a team-best nine pins--in his first year with the Bulldogs after transferring from NCAA Division I Cleveland State. He also was honored by the MIAA on Dec. 10.
The MIAA is sponsoring men's wrestling as a conference championship sport for the first time since 1984.
The Bulldogs hit the mat again on Friday and Saturday at the Wheaton College Pete Willson Invitational in Illinois.
