FREELAND, Mich.--Junior Noah Nieman (Palmyra, Mich./Blissfield High School), a junior on the Adrian College men's wrestling team, is the recipient of the first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Wrestler of the Week award for the 2019-20 season. This signals the second time in Nieman's career (Jan. 28, 2019) that he has been honored by the MIAA.

Nieman helped the Bulldogs to an exciting opening weekend on Saturday when they finished as the runner-up in their own Adrian Invitational, which included nationally No. 5-ranked Mount Union among 12 schools. Nieman--one of three individual champions for Adrian--won the 149-pound title by going 4-0.

After receiving a first-round bye, Nieman won his first match of the season over Jesse Goldufsky of Heidelberg via a technical fall in 4 minutes and 37 seconds, 17-0. In the quarterfinals, he registered another technical fall victory against Ohio Wesleyan's Lane Williams in 3:29, 20-0. Nieman defeated Hayden Bates from Heidelberg in a 6-2 decision in their semifinal match. Then in the first-place bout, Nieman won 15-9 by decision over previously-undefeated Zach Blevins from Toledo's club squad.

Adrian produced 19 placers and finished as the runner-up to Mount Union with 187.5 points, and look forward to continuing that momentum going into the Purple Raiders Invitational in Alliance, Ohio, on Saturday at 10 a.m.
