ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's basketball team topped Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Kalamazoo College today (Dec. 10) inside of Merillat Gymnasium by the score of 60-52. The Lady Bulldogs improve to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the MIAA and the Hornets drop to the same.
Kalamazoo was up by as much as six points, leading 17-11, with 8:58 left in the first half. Adrian answered with an 11-2 run which was topped off by a three-pointer courtesy of senior Katie Ross to give the Lady Bulldogs a 22-19 lead with 4:17 on the clock. Sophomore Amy Van Gessel earned the assist.
After leading 25-24 at halftime, the Lady Bulldogs never let go of the lead and led by as much as 15 points (56-41) at the 4:07 mark when sophomore LaQwana Dockery made a pair of free throws. From there, Kalamazoo kept battling and mustered an 11-4 run to the last whistle.
Leading Adrian's offense was Ross who led three in double figures with a season-high 17 points. Senior Jenn Headley tied a career-high with 15 points and Dockery added 10. Adrian's bench outscored Kalamazoo's bench 16-6. Leading off the bench was sophomore Senneca Scott with seven points to go along with her game-high eight rebounds. Following was Van Gessel and junior Rachael Walker with five and four points, respectively.
Following Scott on the boards was Ross and junior Nichole Boggs with seven a piece. Gessel chipped in with six rebounds and Headley and Dockery each had five.
For the game, Adrian shot 18-for-53 (34%) from the floor and Kalamazoo shot 17-for-60 (28.3%). The Lady Bulldogs out-rebounded the Hornets 48-36.
Adrian is back in action next Wednesday as they host Albion at 8:00 PM.
