ADRIAN, Mich. - A pair of sophomores came off the bench and provided a spark offensively for the Adrian College women's basketball team (4-6) on Saturday, Dec. 31 in a 57-50 win over visiting Oberlin College (3-7).
Amy Van Gessel scored a career-high 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting and chipped in six rebounds in 25 minutes and Jayma Nihart added nine points including a pair of three-pointers to go with four boards and three assists in 16 minutes. The Adrian bench outscored the Oberlin reserves, 31-4, in the contest.
Senior Katie Ross once again was in double figures in scoring with 12 points including nine points in the second half. Ross scored a career-high 34 points last night and went 3-of-9 and 2-of-6 from the arc in tonight's victory. Adrian outrebounded Oberlin, 40-33, and had nine offensive rebounds and eight second-chance points.
The Bulldogs shot 39.4 percent in the first half and built a 30-24 halftime lead. AC stepped it up in the second half to shoot 42.9 percent and were 7-of-10 at the free throw line. Malisa Hoak led all scorers for Oberlin with 20 points and played all 40 minutes.
