ADRIAN, Mich. - After a pair of tough losses to Hope and Calvin in recent games, the Bulldog women's basketball team (6-10, 3-7 MIAA) could not get back into the win column against an upstart Alma (5-14, 3-7 MIAA) ballclub in a 63-46 loss to the Scots on Wednesday night from the Merillat Gymnasium.

Alma swept the season series from Adrian for the first time since the 2006-07 season when Alma capped off five straight wins over the Bulldogs. Adrian had won five of the last eight meetings prior to this season.

Adrian's offensive rhythm was not up to par compared to Alma's in the game even though both teams failed to shoot better than 40 percent from the floor on the night. Adrian was hurt by turnovers (22) and caused just 12 turnovers by the Scots. Alma turned those miscues into 21 points while Adrian scored 10 points off turnovers.

Alma took 13 more shots from the floor and made eight more field goals including a 6-to-3 edge in three-point baskets. The first half was hotly contested for the first 15 minutes as the teams were tied at 21-21 for the fifth tie of the half. Alma closed out the final 4:30 on an 11-3 run capped off by five different Scots scoring during the run. Jessica DeBruin and Morgan Henry each hit a big three-pointer as Alma led 34-26 at intermission.

Katie Ross nailed a three to start the second half to cut the lead to five, but Alma pushed the lead up to 10 at 41-31 with 5:30 gone by in the half. Adrian scored five straight points to again cut the lead to five at 41-36 as Senneca Scott scored three points and Jayma Nihart made a pair of free throws.

Alma put things out of reach with a 13-2 run over the next five minutes hitting six of eight from the floor during the run to lead 54-38 with 7:14 left to play. Ross, Scott and LaQwana Dockery each led Adrian with 10 points. Scott and Dockery each led Adrian with nine rebounds apiece. Scott also reached 200 career rebounds in the game. Jasmine Byers set a career-high with six blocked shots and grabbed five rebounds.

The Bulldogs will look to snap their four-game skid at Albion on Saturday, Jan. 28 with a 3:00 PM tip.
