ANGOLA, Ind. - The Adrian College women's basketball team ran into a cold shooting day on Saturday scoring a season-low in a 46-41 loss to the Thunder. Adrian falls to 3-5 overall and 3-2 in the MIAA after shooting 30.9 percent (17-of-55) from the floor and 25 percent (2-of-8) at the free throw line.
Trine did not fare much better shooting 28 percent in the first half as Adrian led 21-17 at halftime. The Thunder did rebound to make 40 percent from the floor in the second half. Trine also connected on 11-of-17 from the free throw line. Adrian had control of the game up 11 points with 14:31 left in the game. Adrian was held scoreless for over five minutes after that point as Trine climbed back into the game down 36-29 with 9:21 left to play. Trine continued to apply tough defense as Adrian did not score again until 5:13 left on a free throw by Jasmine Byers.
Adrian gave up the lead momentarily but then went back up 39-38 with 4:11 to go on a layup by Raven Anderson. It was the last lead Adrian would have as Trine outscored the Bulldogs, 8-2, in the final 4:11. Adrian committed 25 turnovers as Trine had 19 points off of them. Sydney Spragg had a huge game for the Thunder with 25 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists. Only four Thunder players scored in the game.
The Bulldogs were led by Amy Van Gessel with 13 points and nine rebounds. Casey Fougerousse scored 11 points making three triples. The other three starters combined to shoot 3-for-16 in the contest. The Bulldogs will now travel to Las Vegas for a pair of games on December 20-21 against Goucher and Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
