ADRIAN, Mich. – The home opener for the women's basketball team was much sweeter in the second half on Wednesday and that final 20 minutes led to a 79-61 win over Oberlin College. The Bulldogs trailed 40-30 after 20 minutes and shot 34.3 percent. In the second half, Adrian outscored the Yeowomen 49-21 shooting 56.3 percent and holding the visitors to 25.9 percent from the floor.
"It was definitely two different halves of basketball," said head coach Kathy Morris. "We made a few adjustments to our defense at halftime, and the effort we got from Antoinea McElroy in the second half was outstanding."
McElroy sat out the first half and entered the game with 16:07 remaining and the Bulldogs down 49-39. After that point in the contest, Adrian outscored the Yeowomen 40-12. McElroy scored 16 points in just over 16 minutes going 6-of-14 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the foul line to lead the Bulldogs in scoring. TraeVie Shelton scored a career-high 15 points shooting 6-of-10 from the floor and also making three free throws. Shelton also grabbed six rebounds in 22 minutes. LaQwana Dockery recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. She shot 7-of-11 from the floor and chipped in three assists and two steals.
