Machnacki Selected to USA Deaf Basketball National Team

ADRIAN, Mich. – Sophomore forward Paige Machnacki (Southgate, Mich./Trenton H.S.) of the women's basketball team at Adrian College has been selected as one of 14 players in the nation to represent Team USA at the 2015 World Deaf Basketball Championship that runs from July 4-12 in Taoyuan, Taiwan. She had the opportunity to tryout for the team on October 10-12, 2014 at Gallaudet University, Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD) in Washington, D.C.

Machnacki was one of 25 players to make the trip for the three-day tryout. The key factors of the team's selection process were attitude, hustle, athleticism, versatility, basketball IQ and fundamental skills. The training camp for the National Team will tentatively begin on June 25, 2015. The team will be coached by Laura Edwards who has 23 years of experience and is currently a physical education teacher in Tucson, Arizona.

"I am very excited about having this opportunity to represent my country and travel to a new place," said Machnacki. "I have really been able to feel confident by coming to Adrian College and working with coach (Kathy) Morris. I don't think I would have tried out for something like this without encouragement from a lot of people. I have been working on my game since last season and look forward to this year with the Bulldogs to become better."

Machnacki is majoring in business management with a specialization in sports management. She has been on the Dean's List for the first two semesters at Adrian College.
