HOLLAND, Mich. – The women's basketball team took on No. 13 Hope College Wednesday night in their 2014-15 MIAA opener. The Flying Dutch started out quickly with the first 16 points and left Adrian fighting from behind for the remainder of the game. The Bulldogs dropped their first MIAA contest of the season 77-59 and now stand 1-4 overall with a 0-1 mark in the MIAA.
The Flying Dutch started out by jumping on top of the Bulldogs with the first 16 points of the game. The Bulldogs responded as Marissa Cotton scored the first points of the game for Adrian on a tough shot from inside of the paint. Hope managed to extend their lead heading into the half as they pulled away to a 40-19 advantage at the break. Cotton led the Bulldogs in the first half with eight points on 4-8 shooting.
The Bulldogs fought from behind in the second half as they looked to cut the early lead left by Hope. Cotton scored 13 points in the half to lead Adrian while Amber McCullough tallied 16 points in the half. The Flying Dutch seemed to answer the Bulldog scoring throughout the half as Hope carried their lead for the remainder of the game to a 77-59 final score.
Cotton finished the game with 21 points and three steals. McCullough totaled 18 points while Paige Machnacki recorded seven points and six rebounds.
The Bulldogs will see action again on December 17 when they travel to Kalamazoo College to take on the Hornets at 7:30 p.m.
