ADRIAN, Mich. – The Bulldogs hosted No. 7 Calvin College Saturday afternoon. They held the Knights in check in the first half as they played to a 35-28 halftime score. Calvin then pulled away in the second half by causing turnovers and forcing the Bulldogs into foul trouble as they secured an 80-59 victory. Adrian now stands at 7-14 overall with a 3-9 mark in the MIAA.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 17-11 lead in the first half behind Brigitte Zavithsanos as she would total five points and three rebounds for the half. The Knights would respond with a 10-0 run that would help then secure their 35-28 lead at the break.
The Knights would slowly add to their lead in the second half as they would shoot 3-8 from three-point range and add 14 points from the free through line to stretch their lead. Breanna Verkaik led Calvin with 13 points while Anna Timmer scored eight.
Adrian would fight to stay in the game behind Zavithsanos as she tallied 12 more points and Marissa Cotton as she notched eight points. The Bulldogs would shoot 82.1% from the free throw line and 40% from the floor for the game, but Knights would not give in as they took Adrian down on 39.4% shooting from the floor and 33.3% from behind the arch.
