Women's Basketball Defeated in MIAA Play for the First Time at Nationally-Ranked Hope College

HOLLAND, Mich.--Host Hope College led wire-to-wire for a 90-57 victory Saturday in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's basketball action over Adrian College at the DeVos Fieldhouse.

The nationally-ranked Flying Dutch, who are fourth in the USA TODAY Sports/Women's Basketball Coaches' Association poll and sixth by D3hoops.com, improve to 12-0 overall and 4-0 in the MIAA. The Bulldogs (5-6) lost for the first time in three conference outings after falling to a Top-6 squad for the second time this week.

Senior starter Antoinea McElroy led Adrian with 12 points, while junior Paige Machnacki matched that total coming off the bench and senior Jorden York chipped in 11 off the bench, too.

Maura McAfee came off the Hope bench to lead all scorers with 19 points on 8-of-10 field goal shooting and she led the Flying Dutch with seven rebounds. Reserves Francesca Buchanan and Elizabeth Perkins added 10 points each.

Hope shot 47.1 percent (33-70) from the field while holding Adrian to 36.8 (21-57) and outrebounded the Bulldogs 43 to 36.

A 3-pointer by junior Marissa Cotton brought the Bulldogs within 19-18 to close the first quarter, but the Flying Dutch took control of the second to go into halftime with a large 47-18 advantage.
