FREELAND, Mich.--The Adrian College women's basketball team has been predicted to finish in seventh place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association in the annual preseason coaches' poll, it was announced on Friday. The Bulldogs collected 30 points--just one point shy of No. 6 Olivet--and ahead of Alma (16) and Saint Mary's (9).
Adrian returns an experienced lineup from last season's squad, including the top four scorers in senior guard Antoinea McElroy (11.6 ppg), junior guard Marissa Cotton (11.0 ppg), senior guard Jorden York (10.7 ppg) and junior guard Brigitte Zavithsanos (10.4 ppg). McElroy also is the Bulldogs' leading rebounder with 6.3 per game, along with senior guard Amber McCullough who pulled down 157 boards; she also contributed 9.8 points per game.
Adrian opens the 2015-16 campaign on Saturday, Nov. 14, hosting DePauw at 5 p.m. in the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center.
The MIAA's nine head coaches could not vote for their own teams, so there is a maximum of eight first-place votes for the women's side. Points are awarded on this basis: 8 for first place, 7 for second, 6 for third and so on.
