ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College women's basketball team will be holding its annual #Play4Kay event on Senior Day for Saturday, Feb. 13, when the Bulldogs host nationally-ranked Calvin College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association game. The opening tip is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The program will also be welcoming student-athletes of years' past to participate in the annual alumni game, beginning at 12:15 p.m.
The Bulldogs will be raising awareness and money for breast cancer research. The team is selling T-shirts for $15 and sweatshirts for $25-27, and are available in the Adrian Athletics Dept. There will also be a silent auction in the lobby of the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center, including sporting goods and gift cards donated by area businesses.
Since its inception in 2007, the Play 4Kay initiative has helped the Kay Yow Cancer Fund support $5.18 million in women's cancer research and related projects. The charitable organization is committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women’s cancers through raising money for scientific research and related projects, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.
Coach Yow, former North Carolina State University head women’s basketball coach, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on Jan. 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease. With the creation of the Fund, Coach Yow hoped to raise money to further cutting-edge research conducted by the nation’s top doctors and medical experts to allow more and more cancer patients to have access to experimental drugs and clinical trials.
The Bulldogs invite you to come out and support this terrific cause, as the team continues its push for a postseason berth.
