DETROIT, Mich. -- The Adrian College Dance Team brought home a first-place win beating out crosstown rival Siena Heights University at Coastal on Mar. 23.
"The dance team had a clean performance, definitely the best one this year," head coach Regina Smith states. "This competition I decided it was time to change our routine around. What we had was good, but was not working in our favor to get the win. The seniors came up with a new music selection that fit the team's personality, and we changed our costume for this competition. The judges loved the new changes, and it got us to our first-place win."
The team came out with the all-time score for the season of a 77.93 beating out Siena Heights University with a score of 71.33, a 6.60 point value difference.
"This was huge for our dance team, it gave us a new confidence we need to head into Daytona Beach, Florida," states captain Sydney Gerdeman.
The dance team will be heading down to Daytona Beach in April competing in the National Dance Alliance collegiate team routine Division III. They will compete against teams coach Smith is very familiar with, one whom she used to coach, Thiel College, as well as Johnson County Community College, Blinn College, Barton County Community College, Christopher Newport University, Iowa Central Community College, Bend Lake College, and Ramapo College.
"Many of these schools I used to recruit from while working at other previous colleges, it is going to be a great competition, and I am looking forward to the dance team performance at nationals," said Smith.
This will be the final competition for the dance team this season. The 2013-2014 Dance Team Tryouts will follow on April 20, 2013.
