HOW IT HAPPENED
It took almost the entire first period before there would be an entry on the scoresheet, but Adrian got on the board with 1:47 remaining in the opening period when senior forward Kortney Diaz scored a shorthanded goal. Junior defender Kelly O'Sullivan intercepted a pass at the red line and fed Diaz who walked in on goal and put the puck into the net to take the lead.
The Bulldogs weren't done scoring in the period, as they doubled their lead with 17 seconds remaining in the first. Junior defenseman Rylee Bates scooped up a loose puck in the defensive zone and took it herself up the ice. She laid a drop pass to sophomore forward Brooke Schembri, who gave it right back to Bates after she beat the defense for the goal.
There wouldn't be another goal until late in the third period, when Schembri scored a goal of her own with 5:35 remaining in the game. Junior forward Jacquelin White corralled a loose puck in the Northland zone and found freshman defenseman Amanda Tomasek on the point. Tomasek took a shot that Schembri tipped in front and put through the goalie's legs for the goal.
Adrian was in control the whole game, outshooting the LumberJills 46-18, including a 22-6 mark in the second period.
• Diaz, Bates, and Schembri all scored goals for the Bulldogs.
• O'Sullivan, Schembri, Tomasek, and White added assists.
• Sophomore goaltender Kate Turner made 18 stops in the shutout victory.
• Karadyn Kiviaho led Northland with four shots on goal.
• Gabby Suhr made 43 saves in the loss.
The Bulldogs will finish their series with Northland on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m.
