DULUTH, Minn. – Adrian College women's hockey freshman goaltender Denisa Jandova was named the Defensive Player of the Week by the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) for the weekend of Feb. 8-10, the league announced Tuesday.
Jandova started both games against St. Norbert last weekend, marking the first time in her collegiate career that she has started both games of a weekend series. She let up a goal on the first shot attempt of the game on Friday, Feb. 8, but stopped the next 19 to help Adrian win 4-1. She then followed it up with an 18 save performance on Saturday to give the Bulldogs a 4-2 victory and series sweep. Jandova also started the final game of the Concordia-Wisconsin series, giving her three starts in a row. She has a 6-0-1 record in eight appearances this year and has compiled a 0.66 GAA and .963 SV% over 454:25 of ice time. Jandova currently leads the goaltending squad with four shutouts this season.
This marks the third time this season that a member of the Adrian College women's hockey team has been named a Player of the Week by the NCHA, and first since the third weekend of the season. Jandova joins fellow freshman Jessica VonRuden and senior Shelly Czarnowczan as recipients of the award. VonRuden won Offensive Player of the Week honors for the opening weekend and Czarnowczan was named the Defensive Player of the Week in week three.
The Bulldogs are back in action this weekend, trying to clinch the regular season title with a series against Marian to close out the season. A win in Saturday's game would secure the championship for AC. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16 and 3 p.m. on Sunday.
