MIDDLEBURY, Vt.. – The No. 2 Adrian College women's hockey team battled to its first tie of the season with No. 8 Middlebury at the Panther/Cardinal Classic on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Adrian was quick to get on the board, scoring with just 5:09 off the clock, the first squad to record a power play goal against Middlebury. AC's goal game by way of Maggie Mitter who collected an Abbie Grias pass heading into the offensive zone, before shooting and cleaning up on her own shot that rang off the post. Brianna Buchanan also collected an assist on the tally.
The Bulldogs looked extend its lead to two goals as Nicole Guagliardo pressured the net, just after returning to full-strength, but her shot was denied by the Panther goaltender.
The hosts were finally able to make the board with just over 17 minutes remaining in the contest, capitalizing on the power play
Despite a strong scoring opportunity in the final minutes of regulation, Adrian was unable to cash in on the man-up, eventually going into overtime.
Neither squad was able to find the back of the net in the extra period, as AC was dealt its first tie of the season.
A shootout was held to determine who would advance to the title game tomorrow, with Middlebury coming out on top.
Denisa Jandova was stout in goal, stopping 43 of the 44 shots she faced.
Senior Maggie Mitter owned the squad's lone goal, her sixth goal of the season, tying for the team lead.
Sophomore Denisa Jandova made 43 stops in 65 minutes played. She also made two stops in the shootout.
Adrian returns to action at 1 p.m. on Sunday as it will close out the tournament in a top-10 matchup with Wis.-River Falls.
