MARIETTA, Ohio—The Adrian College women’s rowing team headed south on Saturday to compete in the Muskie Chase, hosted by fellow Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference member Marietta College.
The race was contested over 6,000 meters. In addition, after the primary race the competitors partook in two 500-meter sprint races.
In the Bulldogs’ lone entry of the day, the women’s varsity 8+, Athena Flaishans (coxswain), Allison Saff, Hannah Heller, Emily Reese, Maddie Maloney, Olivia Fox, Heather Temar, Kacie Salon, and Grace Cool took home fourth place. The Bulldogs finished in 24 minutes and 4 seconds, just narrowly behind the University of Cincinnati (23:56) and the University of Dayton (23:46), which finished in third and second place, respectively. Case Western Reserve University, which the Bulldogs dueled only a few weeks ago, won the event. Behind the Bulldogs were the first and second novice entries from Dayton.
“I’m very proud of how our women raced today," stated Adrian head coach Bart Thompson. "Again, almost half of this crew has only been rowing for seven weeks, and they were very much in the hunt for a medal, with just 18 seconds separating second through fourth place. Finishing behind three teams from NCAA Division I schools—including Dayton, which is a varsity program—is very promising.”
The Bulldogs wrap up their fall season this coming weekend at the Bald Eagle Collegiate Invitational.
