ANGOLA, Ind. – The weather did not bother the Adrian College women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon as they posted a 26-3 edge in shots in a 2-0 win over Trine University.
Adrian (5-1-1, 2-1-1) peppered Trine goalkeeper Sloan Davis all day as Davis made 15 saves during the conference matchup. The Bulldogs held a 14-1 advantage in the first half on shots and were 12-2 in the second half.
The team did not break into the scoring column until 51:50 when senior Lauren Cozzi up Adrian ahead 1-0. Cozzi finished from six yards off a pass from senior Courtney Pomeroy. Sophomore Ellery Karsten added an insurance goal at 65:40 with a shot to the top left corner over Davis from 20 yards with an assist from freshman Tori Foote.
Karsten attempted a team-high eight shots with four on goal. Cozzi had three shots on net and sophomore Erin Weide had four shots on net. Senior Chayna Wallace faced just three shots and made one save in 90 minutes.
"Trine is a tricky matchup, they're always well-coached and organized, and they do their homework about all of their opponents," said head coach Ali Alamdari. "Fortunately, we possessed the ball really well and made smart choices all over the field. Despite the rain delay, the field held up pretty well and our girls did a nice job remaining focused when we restarted play."
Note: Play was delayed for about an hour in the 53rd minute.
