Women's Soccer Gets Back to Winning Ways

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's soccer team got back in the win column on Tuesday, Oct. 16, beating Saint Mary's 6-0.

Final Score: Adrian 6, Saint Mary's 0

Location: Adrian, Mich. (Docking Stadium)

Records: Adrian 8-5-1 (5-1 MIAA), Saint Mary's 6-10-0 (1-5 MIAA)

Adrian got on the board first in the ninth minute when sophomore Raquel Church got her foot on a cross from junior Caroline Fleming and put it into the back of the net. The Bulldogs doubled their lead three minutes later when Fleming scored a goal of her own. Fellow junior Brooke Teska had the ball in the box and laid a nice drop pass for Fleming who put the ball into the bottom right corner of the net.

The Black and Gold's next goal came in the 19th minute when Fleming was able to net her second of the match. She took a shot from just outside the box and rifled it into the top left corner. The next Adrian goal wouldn't come until just before the half, when freshman McKenna Mahoney knocked home a header with eight seconds remaining in the first frame. Sophomore Angela Davis took a corner kick from the left side and found Mahoney unmarked by the short post for the score.

It would take until the 74th minute for AC to score again, but sophomore Megan Abela put one home for her first career goal. Teska sent the ball in from the left side and Ablea took one touch to beat her defender and fire it into the top right corner. The last Adrian goal would come in the 80th minute when freshman Molly Safreed notched her third of the year from just outside the box. Fellow freshman Sara Lee played Safreed the ball and Safreed sent a scorcher into the top left corner of the net for the final scoring play of the match.

• Church, Fleming, Mahoney, Abela, and Safreed all scored for the Bulldogs.

• Fleming, Teska, Davis, and Lee added assists.

• Junior Ayverie Giller and sophomore Kristin Page split time for the clean sheet victory.

• Rose Stackhouse led the Belles with three shots on goal.

• Goalkeeper Thallia Robles made eight saves in the match.

"That's a vastly improved Saint Mary's side compared to last season. They've picked up some quality wins and given some strong teams very difficult matches, so we'll happily take the points and move forward." – Head Coach Ali Alamdari

"We were pleased to get a lot of names on the scoresheet, especially after coming through such a tough portion of the MIAA schedule where goals were hard to come by." – Alamdari

"Now that we're in the home stretch, points are at a premium and Trine is coming off of a huge win against Calvin, so we expect that it's going to be a tight battle to maintain our position in the league." – Alamdari

The Bulldogs will hit the road on Saturday, Oct. 20 when they travel to Trine for a matchup with the Thunder. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
