ADRIAN, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Coaches Poll has been released today and the Adrian Bulldogs Softball team is predicted to finish second in the MIAA Conference this season. The Bulldogs return two first-team All-Conference players from a 35-7 season last year, a season in which Adrian set a team-record for wins.
Alma finished first in the poll with 14 points, collecting two first-place votes. The Scots won the MIAA Conference last year, finishing 38-5 (14-2 MIAA) an advancing to NCAA Regional Tournament. The Bulldogs actually received more first-place votes in the poll than the Scotts, with four. Adrian and Trine finished in a tie for second with 17 points each.
The Bulldogs return senior pitcher Kelly Eberhardt, who is coming off a First-team All-MIAA season in which she went 22-6, and broke her own school-record with 213 strikeouts. Sophomore Brittany Bertrand is also coming off a First-team All-MIAA season in which she batted .465 in MIAA contests.
Rounding out the voting was Hope in fourth (28), followed by St. Mary's (38), Albion (44), Olivet (47), Calvin (55), and Kalamazoo (64). The MIAA Conference season begins for all schools on March 24 with Adrian traveling to St. Mary's for a two games with the Belles. The MIAA Conference Tournament will take place on May 3-4 and will be hosted by the school that wins the regular-season conference title.
