CLERMONT, Fla. - The two games on day one of the spring softball trip resulted in a win and an extra inning loss for the Adrian Bulldogs. The Bulldogs scored a total of nine runs whilie only giving up three on the day.
In the first game, a 6-0 win over Hanover, junior Jami Shafley picked up the win, pitching six scoreless innings and striking out nine while surrendering only four hits. With the bases loaded in the first inning, sophomore Brittany Bertrand caught a line drive at third base, stepped on the bag then tossed the ball to first base, getting out the runner who didn't tag for the 5-3 triple-play.
Senior Maggie Hein finished the game 3-for-4 with a run scored. Sophomore Ravin Toner hit her first home run of the season, a three-run shot in the second inning. Senior Katrina Wooten added a pair of runs batted in and a stolen base for the Bulldogs.
The second game of the day was a 4-3 loss to Ferrum in eight innings. Despite the effort from senior pitcher Kelly Eberhardt, she still picked up the loss after throwing eight innings, giving up four runs, and striking out six.
For the game, freshman Kaitlin Hinojosa went 2-for-4, driving in two. Wooten also went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
The Bulldogs will play two games tomorrow, first against Concordia-Moorhead at 3 pm, followed by a 5pm match-up with Rose-Hulman.
