ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The softball team played their first true road games of the season on Saturday at Concordia (Mich.) University and left with a pair of losses to the Cardinals. Adrian fell 4-3 in eight innings in game one and 7-3 in game two.
Kelly Eberhardt gave up three earned runs in game one going the distance allowing five hits with four walks and nine strikeouts. She dips to 3-4 overall this season. Adrian scored first in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Concordia stormed back with two runs in their half of the first off Eberhardt. Adrian regained a 3-2 lead with two runs in the third only to see the Cardinals tie it up 3-3 after three innings. The Cardinals plated the winning run in the eighth despite being outhit 10-5 by the Bulldogs. Adrian left nine runners on base in game one. Katie Dewyre had a pair of hits in three at-bats with a sac bunt in game one. Kaitlyn Hinojosa had a 2-for-4 game with an RBI. Katrina Wotten also had an RBI for the Bulldogs.
Concordia got to Adrian starter Jami Shafley for two runs in the first inning of game two and then added four more runs in the fourth after Adrian tied it 2-2 in the top of the second. Shafley lasted 3.2 innings and allowed six hits and three earned runs. She walked five batters and struck out two falling to 2-2 in the circle. Brooke Stewart faced three batters in the fourth before Eberhardt entered the game. She went two innings and allowed just one hit and one unearned run. Sarah Muncey recorded the final out for Adrian and pitched to two batters in the sixth inning.
Adrian had five hits in game two as Ravin Toner had the lone multi-hit game for Adrian going 2-for-3. Dewyre reached base twice via a walk and drove home a run. Stewart also had an RBI for Adrian as did Tara Camper. Adrian is now 7-6 on the season.
