NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Adrian Bulldogs earned a sweep of the St. Mary's Belles, winning 4-0 in game one, followed by an 8-3 victory on the road. With the wins, the Bulldogs improve to 9-6 (2-0 MIAA) notching an opening sweep in MIAA play.
In the 4-0 game one victory, senior pitcher Kelly Eberhardt picked up her fourth win of the season. Eberhardt went seven innings, allowing zero runs on four hits while striking out four. This was the third time this season Eberhardt earned the win without giving up an earned run.
At the plate, senior Maggie Hein and sophomore Brittany Bertrand both went 2-for-4 with Bertrand hitting two doubles and knocking in two RBI. Brooke Stewart, Kaitlyn Hinojosa, Sarah Hall, and Bertrand all scored one run each for the Bulldogs.
Eberhardt took the circle again for the second game, with the Bulldogs experiencing similar results in the 8-3 win. The senior went six innings and gave up three runs (one earned) on nine hits, striking out five. Eberhardt improved to 5-4 on the year with the wins.
The Bulldogs had an offensive explosion, getting 13 hits in the second game. The freshman Stewart had a strong performance at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs. Hein again went 2-for-4, this time scoring two runs while Hall went 2-for-4 with a run. Hinojosa went 2-for-3 with one run and an RBI.
On Tuesday, the Bulldogs will again take the field at home for a 3 pm double header against Rochester.
